After a one-hour journey we reach Gross-Rosen - the former concentration camp where around 40 000 inmates died between 1940 to 1945. This little patch of land witnessed the suffering and death of thousands of innocent people. Some of the camp's inmates were used to develop the underground complex located in nearby Głuszyca. There we will explore a complicated labyrinth of corridors, halls and bunkers which were created under a code name "Riese" starting in 1943. The purpose of the complex is still disputable with some experts maintaining that it was meant to be Hitler's secret headquaters and others who believe it was supposed to provide shelter for a Wunderwaffen plant.
